A study on the implications of Hongik-Ingan and Gwangmyeong
Thought
Chung, Youn-Don
This study is to clarify the Hongik-Ingan and Gwangmyeong Thought more clearly.
Existing studies are generally focused on Hongik-Ingan, and there are few articles related to
Gwangmyeong Thought. In the case of Hongik-Ingan, many interpretations have been made
of ‘widely benefiting humans’ or ‘widely benefiting the human world’. This view has the
aspect of suggesting a limited interpretation from the point of view of unity with nature, or the
idea of the Trinity of Heaven and Earth. Also, Gwangmyeong Thought was not clear in
relation to Hongik-Ingan and had to stay in an abstract understanding.
Hongik-Ingan and Gwangmyeong Thought are closely related. Hongik- Ingan refers to
‘the person who embrace the light and benefits the people by spreading God’s way’.
Gwangmyeong Thought can be said to be the best world that achieves great wonders on earth
through our human beings who embrace the light. Focusing on what appears in our historical
materials, we have tried to derive Gwangmyeong Thoughts. In addition, we looked at the
relics where the Gwangmyeong Thought was well expressed, and in particular, we looked at
the well expressed of the Gwangmyeong Thought in the relics exposed in the Hongsan
culture.
Through this process, it can be seen that Hongik-Ingan, our spirit, Gwangmyeong
Thought, has been passed on from the times of Hwanin, Hwanung, and Dangun. In addition,
the current Hallyu(Han wave) will spread further as the ideology of Gwangmyeong, leading
to world peace.
