1. Introduction
Sumer is considered as one of the oldest civilizations in the world. The civilization has the
stories which is shared with the same concept but different names in all Abrahamic
religions. [Figure 1] The epic of Gilgamesh is one of those stories, not only mentioned in dif-
ferent religions but also There are similarities between this epic and the stories mentioned in
other civilization including ancient Korea. One example is the heroic mythological story of
Singyo’s Seonism.
1-1. Singyo’s Seonism and Gilgamesh
Singyo’s Seonism is imbued in Judaism and Christianity. Singyo’s Seonim appears first in
Sumerian mythology. The representative example is the Epic of Gilgamesh, Hero of
Sumerian myth.
Embarking a journey in search to find the secret of eternity, Gilgamesh prayed to Enlil
and encountered Utnapishtim in the land of life located over the seven mountain ranges.
The goal of Gilgamesh’s journey, eternity, refers to Seon thought of immortality in
Singyo. Also “the land of life over the seven mountains” suggests Seon thought of “Seven
mountain ranges” which is a geological expression of the seven stars, the symbolic language
of Singyo’s Seon thought. 1)
One of the heritages that the Sumerian civilization has given to humanity is literary com-
positions of many similar stories. Among them are the mythological narrations on the hu-
man birth, gods, and legendary heroes.
