The parallel studies on the mythological stories of Sumerian civilization
in relation with ancient Korean history in the holy book of Hwandangogi Mahdi Hajikhani
The recent archaeological research and excavation looks forward to finding evidence re-
lated to the origins of the myth of Gilgamesh. 2)
Figure 5 An inscription found in archaeological excavations of Kerman Province near,Jiroft, or
the Halil Rud region of Iran, which is the oldest inscription in the world
Gilgamesh is mentioned as the oldest heroic character in the Mesopotamian civilization.
Figure 6This article tends to explore traces of ancient Sumerian heritage and present a new
interpretation of the background and lineage of the epic. Gilgamesh was not merely the
product development in an ancient civilization. Due to repetition of the story in different
other cultures, the mythological evidence and accepted validity of the Mesopotamian origin
of this epic, is somewhat questioned. On one hand, citing some cultural developments in the
south and southwest of Iran, the possibility of a kind of cross-cultural lineage in the evolu-
tion of the epic will be emphasized. The cross-cultural genealogy of Gilgamesh will gradu-
ally reveal manifestations of the origins of an ancient civilization in the Halil Rud region and
will raise new speculations by comparing the artifacts found in Mesopotamia. This claim is
mostly relaying on recent archaeological evidence and excavations in areas of southeastern
Iran - Jiroft and Yahya Hill. 3)
On the other hand, the study is going to explore the evidence of this epic in ancient civi-
lizations of East Asia, particularly those of Korean civilization.
At last, the present research will finally lead to a diagram of the evolution of the myth over
time.
